Thailand, officially the Kingdom of Thailand and formerly known as Siam, is a country at the centre of the Southeast Asian Indochinese Peninsula.

🌐 Some key dates in Thailand's history:

☑️ 1932 - Thai kingdoms and the late Kingdom of Siam were under absolute rule of kings. After the "democratic revolution" in 1932, led by Westernized bureaucrats and a tradition-oriented military, the country officially became a constitutional monarchy with a prime minister as the government head.
☑️ 1947 - Siamese coup d'état of 1947
☑️ 2001 - Thaksin Shinawatra becomes prime minister for first time.
☑️ 2006 - Thai coup d'état
☑️ 2011 - Pro-Thaksin Pheu Thai party wins a landslide victory in elections. Thaksin's sister Yingluck becomes prime minister.
☑️ 2014 - Thai coup d'état
☑️ 2016 - Vajiralongkorn, is King of Thailand since 2016.
